On Wednesday morning, as the flight from Saurya Airlines took off from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, it skidded off the runway, killing eighteen people.

According to Airport Security Chief Arjun Chand Thakuri, the aircraft was transporting 17 technicians and two crew members to Pokhara city for maintenance inspections. Reuters was informed of this.

After being saved, pilot Manish Shankya was sent to a neighboring hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for a head injury. The army of Nepal is in charge of the rescue efforts.

The plane flipped during takeoff, according to eyewitnesses cited by The Kathmandu Post, after the wingtip struck the ground. According to reports, the aircraft burst into flames right away and crashed into a ravine on the eastern portion of the runway.

The aircraft belonged to Saurya Airlines, a local company, the media stated. According to Flight Radar 24, Saurya uses two Bombardier CRJ-200 regional planes, both roughly twenty years old, for domestic flights in Nepal.

72 people, including five Indians, perished in January of last year when a Yeti Airlines plane crashed on Sunday shortly before it was scheduled to land in Pokhara, a popular tourist destination in Nepal.

Since 2000, over 350 individuals have perished in plane or helicopter crashes, according to Reuters. The worst occurrence happened in 1992 when an Airbus operated by Pakistan International Airlines struck a hillside as it approached Kathmandu, killing 167 passengers.
