Indian 2 Box Office Day 1 Advance Booking (Final): Sells Over 6.25 Lakh Tickets Nationwide, But Cannot Surpass Vikram by Kamal Haasan

The startlingly poor buzz surrounding Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 is obvious from the advance box office booking.

Day 1 Advance Booking for Indian 2 Box Office (Final)

Indian 2, the much anticipated film starring Kamal Haasan, has already opened in theaters across the globe. It has been in the works for a while, but there have been multiple setbacks for different reasons. The movie didn't generate much of a buzz, even with such well-known actors involved, and day one advance sales at the Indian box office were incredibly disappointing. In case you missed it, the movie is a follow-up to Shankar's 1996 blockbuster Indian. The first installment received overwhelmingly good reviews from reviewers and was a major theatrical hit. It even attained cult status among viewers over time. Regrettably, the sequel failed to attract audiences despite the cat's immense fame.

In the Indian cinema business, director Shankar and actor Kamal Haasan are both well-known figures who have built their own brands. While Shankar is making his comeback after a six-year hiatus following the release of his 2.0 in 2018, Kamal is coming off of the fantastic performance of Kalki 2898 AD. Even still, there isn't much of a buzz at the ground level, with unattractive promotional materials and excessive release delays being the main causes.

However, Indian 2's first day of advance bookings concluded at 11.20 crores gross across the country and all languages (excluding blocked seats), suggesting that the franchise factor has somewhat paid off. In India, there are currently more than 6.25 lakh seats that are sold out. If we consider the number in isolation, it is a decent one. This number seems lackluster, though, given the success of the predecessor and the astronomical expense of production.

Indian 2 performed much worse than Kamal Haasan's last feature film, Vikram. For those who don't aware, Vikram concluded its first day of advance sales in India at a gross of 15.60 crores (blocking tickets excluded). The one bright spot is that, compared to Vikram, the Indian sequel is receiving far better reviews in the Telugu states.
